Are contact lenses harmful if worn for too long?

Contact lenses can be harmful when worn for a long time, which may cause dry eyes, corneal lesions, and ocular nerve paralysis.
1. Dry eyes: After wearing contact lenses for a long time, the eyes are prone to lack of oxygen, causing dry and itchy eyes.
2. Corneal lesions: Contact lenses are in contact with the eye for a long time, and if the concavity of the lens does not match the convexity of the eye, the cornea will be easily abraded. Prolonged wear is also likely to increase the chances of infection by pathogenic microorganisms, leading to keratitis.
3. Ocular nerve paralysis: When contact lenses are worn for a long time, the contact time between the lens and the cornea is too long, which may cause ocular nerve paralysis, resulting in corneal hyperalgesia.
Contact lenses need to be replaced regularly and should not be worn for too long every day. If you experience eye discomfort after wearing contact lenses for a long period of time, you should consult a doctor and follow the doctor’s instructions for targeted treatment, in order to prevent the condition from being delayed and causing other eye problems.
