How long the uterus contracts after purging needs to be determined by the patient’s own condition and constitution. There is no absolute time for uterine contractions, usually around 1-2 days. Due to the retraction of uterine muscle fibers, the uterus will gradually shrink and compress blood vessels, which can help the uterus stop bleeding. The pain is usually most noticeable for 1-2 hours after surgery and contractions may disappear after 1-2 days. Abdominal distension and pain may occur during uterine contractions, and blood in the uterine cavity will be drained through the vagina. In addition, patients should avoid coitus, swimming, bathing and other things that may cause dirty water to enter the vagina for one month after the uterus is cleared, so as to avoid reproductive tract infections such as vaginitis and endometritis. Patients are advised to go to the hospital for ultrasound review about one week after the purging operation.
