Diagnosis of menorrhagia in Chinese medicine

The TCM diagnosis of menorrhagia includes blood deficiency, blood cold, blood stasis, kidney deficiency or phlegm-dampness. 1. Low menstrual flow due to blood deficiency: It is mainly related to loss of blood and injury of yin after prolonged illness, or injury of the spleen and stomach, and insufficient source of biochemistry, etc. Specific manifestations include spotting vaginal bleeding with pale red color and thin texture, which is often accompanied by other symptoms such as yellowish color (yellowish and lack of luster), dizziness, and palpitations (accelerated heartbeat, which is often accompanied with heart panic). 2. Low menstrual flow with cold blood: It is mainly related to women’s cold yin, insufficient function of transforming qi and generating blood, and low blood flow of Chong Ren. Usually, the patient’s menstrual blood is small in volume, pale or dull in color, and thin in quality, and may be accompanied by other symptoms such as fear of cold, cold pain in the abdomen, and a preference for warmth and heat. 3. Low menstrual flow with blood stasis: patients are mostly due to cold condensation and stagnation of qi, stagnant blood, and poor blood flow in Chong Ren, etc. The main manifestations are low menstrual flow, dull color and lumps, and easy to be accompanied by coldness in the abdomen, refusal to be pressed in the abdomen, and warmth and heat, etc. However, the pain is mostly alleviated after the blood clots have been discharged. 4. Low menstrual flow due to kidney deficiency: It is mainly related to women’s congenital insufficiency, multiple deliveries, uncontrolled sexual intercourse and other damages to kidney qi, and insufficiency of blood in the channels of Chongren and cystic veins. In addition to low menstrual flow, dull red color and thin texture, such women are also prone to dizziness, tinnitus, lumbar and knee weakness (the feeling of lumbar and knee weakness) and other symptoms. 5. Low menstrual flow with phlegm-dampness: It is mostly caused by obesity, improper diet, etc., which leads to phlegm-dampness and stagnation of the blood flow in Chong Ren, and is manifested as low menstrual flow with pale color and thin texture, and may be accompanied by other symptoms such as excessive amount of leukorrhea, whitish color (pale and lusterless), and palpitations, etc. It is recommended to consult a doctor if you have low menstrual flow. It is recommended that people with low menstrual flow should consult regular hospitals for diagnosis and treatment, and should not use drugs or prescriptions on their own.
