An ingrown prepuce is the result of the foreskin getting stuck behind the coronary sulcus, creating a narrow ring of foreskin that cannot be moved. It can cause impaired blood and lymphatic circulation to the head of the penis, ultimately causing ischaemic damage to the penis. The main symptoms are oedema of the foreskin, oedema, congestion and pain in the head of the penis. In infants, it is mainly caused by improper washing of the penis during bathing, while in adults, it is mainly caused by excessive circumcision or sexual intercourse or masturbation. Once it occurs it needs immediate medical attention and urgent treatment, otherwise it may cause ischaemic necrosis of the head of the penis.
