The efficacy of Buddha’s Hand is to dredge the liver and regulate qi (regulating the stagnation of liver qi), harmonize the stomach and relieve pain, and dry dampness and resolve phlegm (expelling phlegm from the body by drying dampness with medicines). It is mainly used to treat a series of symptoms caused by liver depression and stagnation of qi (poor qi and blood transportation in the liver, emotional depression), stagnation of qi in the spleen and stomach, and phlegm-dampness obstruction.
Buddha’s hand is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine and its effects and applications are as follows:
1. Soothing the liver and relieving depression. It can be used to treat symptoms such as fullness and pain in the chest and hypochondrium (a collective term for the chest and ribcage area) caused by liver stagnation and qi stagnation, and depression.
2. Harmonizing the stomach and relieving pain. It can be used to treat pain in the stomach and epigastric region (pain in the area of the stomach near the heart), distention and fullness in the epigastrium (abdomen), and vomiting with little food caused by stagnation of qi in the spleen and stomach.
3. Dampening dampness and resolving phlegm. It can be used to treat coughing, coughing up phlegm, phlegm that is white in color and in abundance caused by phlegm-dampness obstruction.
