What is myometriosis

Adenomyosis is a diffuse or limited lesion due to invasion of the endometrial glands and mesenchyme into the myometrium, and is a relatively common gynecological condition, belonging to a specific type of endometriosis. Adenomyosis is mainly due to the lack of submucosal layer in the uterus, so the cells of the basal layer of the endometrium proliferate and invade the myometrium with compensatory hypertrophy of the surrounding myometrial cells and form a lesion. As the endometrium grows into the myometrium, women may experience severe abdominal pain or a series of clinical symptoms such as irregular menstruation, irregular vaginal bleeding, heavy menstrual bleeding, and also infertility, while a small number of women have no obvious clinical symptoms. The cause of adenomyosis is unclear, and it is thought to be related to repeated abortions or uterine surgery, so young women should try not to have abortions or induced scrapings. For the treatment of adenomyosis, there are currently drug conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Drug conservative treatment can be done by taking hormonal drugs to control the series of clinical symptoms caused by adenomyosis. Surgical treatment is mainly divided into local lesion removal and total hysterectomy.
