The most important test to determine between the common cold and novel pneumonia is the nucleic acid test for the new coronavirus. If a patient has multiple positive nucleic acid tests for the new coronavirus, the clinical diagnosis of new pneumonia can be confirmed, while if the patient has multiple negative nucleic acid tests, new pneumonia can generally be excluded. In addition to the nucleic acid test for the new coronavirus, it can also be identified by lung CT. Patients with the common cold rarely show interstitial changes in the lungs, while patients with the new pneumonia can, in most cases, show interstitial changes mainly in the peripheral zone. In addition, differentiation can be made by epidemiological history of exposure and clinical symptoms.
