Secondary trigeminal neuralgia versus primary trigeminal neuralgia

Secondary trigeminal neuralgia and primary trigeminal neuralgia are the two main classifications of trigeminal neuropathy, with several differences in age of onset, pain characteristics, and etiology. Trigeminal neuralgia attacks will appear burning, cutting, needle-like pain in the face, divided into primary and secondary two, the two have several aspects of difference. The first is the difference in age of onset, primary trigeminal neuralgia is usually seen in patients over 40 years old, while secondary trigeminal neuralgia is mostly seen in young adults under 40 years old. The second is the difference in pain characteristics. Primary trigeminal neuralgia has a slow onset, often with no obvious signs of regular pain, from mild to severe, with gradually frequent attacks. And there are obvious pain trigger points, usually located in the upper lip, nose and other locations. Secondary trigeminal neuralgia, on the other hand, is usually a persistent, severe pain with no obvious pain trigger points. The causes of the disease are also different. The cause of primary trigeminal neuralgia is not fully understood, and there are no obvious organic lesions associated with the condition when examined. Secondary trigeminal neuralgia can detect obvious lesions, such as brain inflammation, cerebrovascular lesions, tumors, intracranial occupations and so on. Secondary trigeminal neuralgia and primary trigeminal neuralgia both have more obvious uncomfortable symptoms, and need to go to a regular hospital as soon as possible to take the relevant treatment to relieve the symptoms.
