Minimally invasive surgery time for sinusitis is related to the severity of the lesion, the level of experience of the surgeon and other factors, and most of them take 1-2 hours, with some individual differences.
Normal human sinuses are divided into symmetrical, four pairs on the left and right sides, including the frontal sinus, septal sinus, pterygoid sinus and maxillary sinus. Sinusitis can involve a single sinus, multiple sinuses, or possibly both left and right sinuses. A unilateral sinus surgery takes about half an hour and a bilateral sinus surgery takes about an hour. If the patient bleeds heavily or has anatomical variations during surgery, the surgery time may be extended at the discretion of the patient. Since sinus surgery is primarily general anesthesia, it takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours in total to prepare for general anesthesia and to perform the surgery.
In addition, the patient’s nasal cavity will be filled with gauze or cotton balls for three days after surgery to stop the bleeding, at which time the patient may experience significant headache and pain around the eyes, which can be relieved with appropriate pain medication, and will usually gradually improve after the gauze or cotton balls are removed.
