Watermelon is not recommended for adults during diarrhea.
Watermelon contains a large amount of cellulose, its hydrophilic properties can absorb water in the intestines, which in turn increases the amount of feces, stimulates the colon to strengthen peristalsis, and promotes defecation. For diarrhea patients, the physiological mechanism of cellulose can make the condition worse, and even serious easily lead to water electrolyte disorders and acid-base imbalance and other more serious complications. Therefore, it is not recommended that patients with diarrhea eat watermelon.
Diarrhea patients are advised to try to eat easily digested and absorbed food, follow the dietary principle of small meals to ensure adequate nutritional intake. For patients with severe diarrhea, antidiarrheal drugs can be applied as appropriate, specifically for use under the guidance of a physician.
