How are smell disorders medicated?

Olfactory dysfunction may be associated with nasal obstruction due to rhinitis, olfactory neuritis, etc. It can be treated with oral medication, nasal spray, saline nasal wash, etc.
1. Rhinitis
(1) Acute rhinitis: after influenza virus infection, the nasal mucosa shows symptoms of catarrh, and the nasal secretion increases, resulting in nasal obstruction, so that the gas cannot flow into the olfactory region normally. Chinese medicines such as Shuanghuanglian Oral Liquid and Four Seasons Anti-Viral Oral Liquid can be used, and saline nasal wash can be used locally to keep the nasal cavity clean.
(2) Allergic rhinitis: allergens stimulate the nasal cavity leading to inflammation, resulting in increased nasal secretion. Oral anti-allergy drugs such as loratadine can be taken, together with budesonide nasal spray, to control the inflammation of the nasal cavity and reduce the edema of the nasal mucosa.
2. Olfactory neuritis: viral infection can directly lead to inflammation of the olfactory nerve, antiviral treatment such as oseltamivir should be taken in time, combined with the above nasal spray hormone treatment. In addition, nasal saline or physiological seawater can be used to rinse the nasal cavity.
It is recommended that the patient should consult a doctor for examination and actively search for the cause of the disease, and the above drugs should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
