There is no formula called Chaihu Dangjie Tang; a similar name is Xiao Chaihu Tang, which consists of Scutellaria baicalensis, Semixia, and Chaihu. Xiao Chaihu Tang is from “The Treatise on Typhoid Fever”, which consists of Scutellaria Baicalensis, Semixia, Chaihu, Ginseng, Ginger, Licorice and Jujubes, and has the effect of reconciling Shaoyang (treating external heat illnesses in which the evil is between the half-expression and half-lipperation). Xiao Chaihu Tang is mainly used to treat the symptoms of typhoid fever Shaoyang (one of the six meridians of typhoid fever, which is between the surface and the inside of the body), including bitter fullness in the chest (distension and discomfort in front and at the sides of the chest), chills and heat, upset and nausea, a silent desire to eat and drink, dryness of the throat, bitterness in the mouth, dizziness, stringy pulse, and a thin, white coating on the tongue. It also treats jaundice and malaria.
