Oral cancer recurrence after surgery usually occurs in a few years

The time of recurrence of oral cancer is related to the patient’s cancer type and stage, and there are individual differences, but recurrence is more common in the 2nd to 3rd year after surgery. Oral cancer is a malignant tumor of oral mucous membrane tissues, mostly seen in males. The common causes of oral cancer are smoking, alcohol abuse, betel nut chewing, and other factors are also related to the occurrence of oral cancer, but they are considered to be far less important than the aforementioned causes. The common site of oral cancer is the tongue, followed by the gums and the palate. Currently, the main treatments for oral cancer are surgical treatment as well as radiotherapy. Surveys show that the recurrence rate of oral cancer is high, reaching 6%~22%, and the 5-year survival rate of oral cancer patients after recurrence is also low, about 24%~50%. There is no authoritative time for recurrence of oral cancer after surgery, but clinically more patients will have recurrence in 2~3 years after surgery. However, there are large individual differences. Oral cancer patients should actively seek medical treatment. After surgery, they should have regular rechecks according to the doctor’s requirements.
