What does IPMN mean?

IPMN is the acronym for intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas.
1. Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas usually occurs in the pancreas and belongs to a rare type of cystic tumor of the pancreas. The pathology of this tumor is characterized by the origin of the ductal epithelial cells of the pancreas, most of which grow in a papillary manner and can secrete a lot of mucus, which causes progressive dilatation or cystic degeneration of the main pancreatic duct and the branch pancreatic ducts.
2. In addition to this disease, IPMN also includes junctional pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous adenoma, pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous adenocarcinoma in situ, pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous adenocarcinoma, and other types of pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous adenocarcinoma.
3. Intraductal papillary mucinous tumor of the pancreas occurs in the elderly aged 60 to 70 years old. Clinical symptoms and signs of patients mainly depend on the degree of ductal dilatation and the amount of mucus produced, which can be manifested as epigastric pain, abdominal distension, abdominal discomfort and other symptoms.
4. Once the disease is diagnosed, radical surgical resection should be actively performed because the disease has a certain tendency of malignant transformation and the rate of surgical resection is high with good therapeutic effect. Commonly used surgical procedures include pancreatic duodenectomy, pancreatic body tail resection, total pancreatectomy, etc. Patients usually have a good prognosis.
It is recommended to consult a doctor in time and standardize the treatment under the doctor’s guidance.
