Hypopharyngeal cancer can live for about 10 years after surgery in early stage and only a few months in late stage. Hypopharyngeal cancer surgery is categorized into radical surgical resection and palliative surgical resection, which is mainly based on the patient’s staging and also directly affects his/her survival cycle. In early stage hypopharyngeal cancer, radical surgery is performed, through which tumor tissues and cancer cells can be removed, thus achieving a cure, and the survival period of patients can reach more than 10 years. However, in case of advanced hypopharyngeal cancer, there is no way to completely remove the tumor, only palliative resection can be performed, or systemic treatment can help to improve the patient’s discomfort and prolong the survival cycle appropriately, and the patient can usually survive for a few months to a year.
