Why is acne so difficult to treat?

There are many young people who are often worried about their face “acne”. Many people seek medical help, but still repeatedly do not heal, the rash is getting worse, and even the formation of cysts and scarring and other disfiguring damage, and cause personality changes, such as low self-esteem, autism, fear of interaction with people, for employment and social barriers. Why is “acne” so difficult to treat?

In medicine, “acne” is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of the sebaceous glands of the hair follicles caused by a variety of factors, manifested as acne, papules, pustules, nodules, cysts and other rashes, which occur in the face, chest, back and other areas rich in sebaceous glands, common in adolescent men and women, accompanied by seborrhea.

Western medicine believes that the cause of this rash is the increase of androgen secretion and metabolites, while the development and secretion function of sebaceous glands are directly governed by androgens, which increases the activity of sebaceous glands. In addition, there are keratinization abnormalities in the ducts of sebaceous glands of hair follicles, and the secretion of hair follicles tends to block the mouth of hair follicles. Microbial infections are also a cause of morbidity, such as Propionibacterium acnes, leading to acne papules and pustules. The development of acne is also related to immunity. Increased serum IgG levels in humoral immunity of acne patients participate in and enhance the inflammatory response of acne. In addition, genetic factors, emotional stress, irritating diets and certain chemical stimuli can all contribute to the development of acne.

Chinese medicine calls acne “pimples” and “wine spurs”. It is believed that the onset of acne is related to the human body’s own qualities. Those who are prone to acne are mostly endowed with heat, and their parents’ good consumption of spicy food during conception causes heat in the fetus to be transmitted to the fetus. The accumulation of heat in the lungs and stomach, which remains unresolved for a long time, turns into dampness and phlegm, resulting in papules and nodules, and can form cysts.

Therefore, acne is caused by many factors such as genetics, diet, emotions, and living, and its treatment should be comprehensive, so you should not seek medical treatment and take medication, but do what you want for personal reasons, not paying attention to your own “recuperation”, and not looking for reasons from yourself when the treatment is not effective. Such behavior is not desirable.

In addition to the combination of Chinese and Western medicine treatment, patients themselves should pay attention to what aspects of the problem?

First, we should pay attention to diet. Improper diet is not necessarily a direct factor in the development of acne, but it is a common cause of recurring and persistent disease. High-fat, fried foods can generate a lot of heat and promote sebaceous secretion, resulting in more oil. Therefore, acne patients should “avoid eating”, especially high-fat foods and fried foods, spicy and fishy products, less sweets, and smoking and alcohol to avoid a strong metabolism. At the same time, those who are hot and humid should not use tonic products to avoid aggravating internal heat and inducing aggravation of acne; those who have a deficient spleen should pay attention to not eating cold food, especially avoiding ice food. Eat more fresh vegetables, such as celery, spinach, cabbage, cucumber, winter melon, tomatoes, cauliflower, mung bean sprouts, soy bean sprouts, vegetable hearts, bitter melon, etc. Eat more fruits, such as apples, pears, strawberries, tangerines, oranges, bananas, watermelons, hawthorn, lemons, etc. Eat more soy products and coarse grains, lean meat, etc. Also pay attention to the amount of dietary intake, do not eat too much, drink too much, so as not to cause dysfunction of the spleen and stomach to accept and decompose.

Second, pay attention to rest. Modern life is stressful, fast-paced, busy when you do not pay attention to rest on time. When resting too much night life, miss the best time to rest at night, in the long run will certainly make people in a subhealthy state, dark circles under the eyes, dull face, pimples and other problems. So it is important to combine work and rest to ensure 8 hours of sleep every day. Especially from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. for the son of the hour, for the alternation of yin and yang, the most powerful yin, the weakest yang, this time must go to sleep, so as not to stir up the yang, stimulating adrenal secretion.

Third, to adjust the mindset. For young people nowadays, schooling, employment and marriage lead to stress in school life, work tension and mental anxiety, which inhibit the secretion of testosterone and estrogen, causing endocrine disorders and increasing the likelihood of acne development. Therefore, you should learn to adjust your mind, adapt to your environment, relieve stress and maintain a positive and optimistic attitude toward life.

Fourth, we should pay attention to facial cleanliness. Warm water or sulfur soap should be used to clean the affected area and face, and according to the amount of facial oil, clean 2-3 times a day. Do not squeeze the acne with your hands to prevent inflammation from spreading and aggravating the lesions, or even forming scarring. During the treatment period, do not use oily cosmetics or cosmetics containing powder to avoid clogging the pores and aggravating the condition. Do not abuse cosmetics to avoid improper use of cosmetics that may lead to “cosmetic acne”. In addition, in the hot summer months, due to high temperatures and high humidity, you should also pay attention to avoiding light on your face and wipe it off in time when you sweat too much to avoid high temperatures and sweat stimulating the lesions.

Fifth, specialist treatment is required. Acne patients should choose to go to a regular hospital for specialist treatment, do not use topical drugs without authorization, especially do not use hormonal drugs, otherwise, the condition will be repeated and more difficult to treat.
