Precautions after scar injection

Scar medication injections are one of the common and effective treatments for raised scars. Understanding the precautions related to scar injections will play an important role in helping the treatment.

After scar injection, sterile gauze pads are needed to compress the scar for more than fifteen minutes until the injection area does not bleed before stopping the compression and leaving the hospital. The injection area should not be exposed to water until the next day.

The purpose of scar injections is to induce apoptosis and necrosis of scar cells to soften the scar and solve the problem of “protruding” scar appearance. Therefore, it is normal for the injected area to become dark in the early stage after the injection, and it will gradually fade away later. If blistering or breakage occurs in the injection area, please contact the assistant doctor or come to the hospital in time. After the injection treatment, patients can also apply iodophor twice a day by themselves and cover it with sterile gauze to avoid infection. Later on, after the scar softens, blood will appear in the injection area and there may be whitening or local depression around the area, please do not be nervous, it will recover on its own later. For those who cannot recover on their own, simple interventional treatment can also be used to promote recovery.

The drug component of the scar injection is mainly hormones, and women may experience menstrual irregularities after the injection, which will generally recover after stopping the drug or lengthening the treatment interval. If you have any discomfort after treatment, please contact your assistant doctor or come to the hospital in time.

Scar medication should only be used after scar injection until the injection area is not blackened, crusted, or broken. If any of the above conditions exist, the use of scar medication may cause the scar to break down.

The purpose of scar injections is to induce softening and flattening of the protruding scars, with limited effect on the treatment of dimensions such as appearance and color. Except for some lucky patients, the majority of patients often need to be treated with plasma or laser to achieve overall improvement.
