Scarring is an inevitable product of the body’s injury repair process. In a sense, without scarring, there would be no injury healing. However, scar growth beyond a certain limit can produce undesirable results and may have an impact on both appearance and function. This is when treatment is needed to improve the scar.
Treatment of keloid scars is a complex process, with a variety of treatments available and results varying widely. In general, scar treatment is divided into two categories: surgical and non-surgical treatments.
Surgical treatment: The time for surgical treatment is usually within six months to two years after the injury, but the specific time needs to be decided flexibly according to each individual’s specific situation and cannot be generalized. During surgery, the original scar is removed, the surrounding tissue is loosened, and then re-layered with fine sutures or flap repair. In most cases, small flaps are also made at the wound to prevent the contraction and deformation of the scar in the future.
Non-surgical treatment: 1. Drug injection: There are more kinds of drugs available for injection, such as hormone, 5-fluorouracil, bleomycin and interferon. There are some individual differences in the effects of these drugs, and the types and doses need to be adjusted at any time during the treatment process.
2.Cryotherapy.
3.Laser treatment.
4.Local pressure treatment: This is more suitable for keloids of the earlobe.
5.Topical topical medication: such as silicone dressing, commercially available various anti-scar creams, etc. However, the effect needs to be observed in depth.
6. Radiation therapy.
Note: 1. The treatment of keloid scars is a comprehensive treatment, which requires the integration and flexible application of multiple methods. There is no “cure-all”. Adjustment of the treatment plan is inevitable according to the treatment situation.
2. There is no doubt that scarring will be significantly improved after systematic treatment. However, it is unrealistic to hope that there will be no trace at all after treatment.
