What to look for in adenoid hypertrophy

Children with adenoid hypertrophy need to be careful not to catch a cold and to minimize upper respiratory tract infections. Once an upper respiratory tract infection occurs, the adenoids will likely become enlarged again. Children with adenoid hypertrophy may have nasal congestion, sinusitis, secretory otitis media, sleep snoring, open-mouth breathing, and other clinical manifestations. For the above manifestations, an examination such as electronic nasopharyngoscopy or lateral nasopharyngeal film is recommended to determine the degree of adenoid hypertrophy. If the patient’s symptoms are severe and the adenoids are more than 2/4 enlarged, surgery can be considered. If the adenoids are only mildly enlarged and the child’s symptoms are not very severe, frequent observation is recommended. At the same time, usually pay attention to eat more vegetables and fruits to increase the child’s resistance and avoid stimulation such as colds.
