Congenital megacolon can be treated surgically by removing the diseased segment of the bowel and replacing the diseased bowel by dragging out the ganglionally developed bowel and anastomosing it with the anal canal.
With surgical treatment, most patients have normal anorectal function with little impact on quality of life.
