What to do if you have high bile acids during pregnancy

High bile acids during pregnancy can be treated by dietary modifications, medication, and early termination of pregnancy.
Bile acids are important components of bile and play an important role in fat metabolism. High bile acids during pregnancy may be caused by dietary aspects, pre-pregnancy underlying diseases, or intrahepatic cholestasis during pregnancy.
1. Dietary adjustment: If it is caused by dietary factors, you should avoid eating foods high in cholesterol, and eat more high-protein, vitamin-rich foods in your daily life, such as fresh vegetables and fruits, dairy products, beans and fish.
2. Medication: elevated bile acids with clinical symptoms may be the result of intrahepatic cholestasis in pregnancy, which needs to be highly valued. Under the advice and guidance of a professional doctor, drugs such as adenosylmethionine butanedisulfonate or ursodeoxycholic acid can be used to promote bile excretion, which is conducive to the reduction of bile acids; and medicines such as glycerol lotion can be used to coat the skin and alleviate itchiness.
3. Early termination of pregnancy: If the elevated bile acid is accompanied by complications such as preeclampsia, or if the fetus is found to have intrauterine hypoxia and other emergencies, early termination of pregnancy can be considered.
Pregnant women with high bile acids should not be overly nervous, should be timely medical treatment, under the guidance of the doctor’s advice, improve the relevant examination, clear the specific causes, targeted treatment.
