How to give an enema to a patient

The main operations of giving enema to patients are: preparation before enema, enema, and discharge after 5~10 minutes. 1. Preparation before enema: first of all, the solution for enema should be prepared, and the enema solution should be hung on the top of the infusion frame to lubricate the front end of the anal tube. Then explain the purpose of the enema to the patient, let the patient take the lateral position, legs bent at the knees, and take off the pants, fully expose the anus, and use a waterproof pad under the buttocks. 2. Enema: let the patient relax, take a deep breath to see the location of the anus, insert the anal tube into the rectum through the anus, then fix the anal tube, release the switch so that the liquid slowly flows into the rectum. 3.5~10 minutes after discharge: after the end of the enema, gently pull out the anal tube, help the patient to wipe the anus, clean up the utensils, and tell the patient to keep the enema liquid for 5~10 minutes after defecation. The enema operation should be carried out by professional doctors and nurses, and should not be taken blindly by yourself, so as not to cause adverse consequences.
