Calf muscular dystrophy can be caused by myogenic factors such as polymyositis and neurogenic factors such as poliomyelitis.
1. Myogenic factors
(1) Polymyositis: it is an autoimmune disease, mainly manifested as weakness of proximal muscles of the limbs. It is related to genetic, viral, bacterial, parasitic and other infections, immunity and other factors.
(2) progressive muscular dystrophy: a group of hereditary skeletal muscle degenerative diseases mainly characterized by degeneration and necrosis of skeletal muscle fibers, mainly manifested as muscle atrophy, muscle weakness, etc., and can also involve the heart and other organs.
2. Neurogenic factors
(1) Poliomyelitis: an acute infectious disease caused by poliovirus infection, poliovirus is neurophilic, leading to deformation and necrosis of the infected neurons, resulting in a decline in the function of the muscles innervated by the neurons or the loss of muscle function, resulting in muscular atrophy, and the appearance of muscle dystrophy in the lower legs.
(2) Lumbar intervertebral disc herniation: the herniated lumbar intervertebral disc can compress the corresponding lumbar medulla oblongata or nerve root, resulting in conduction abnormality, causing the muscles innervated by it to appear atrophy and other dystrophic manifestations.
There are many other causes of calf muscle dystrophy, such as prolonged bed rest. It is recommended to seek early medical treatment to clarify the diagnosis and carry out targeted treatment.
