Night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep and stopping after waking up) may be caused by insufficiency of heart blood (insufficient blood in the heart) or yin deficiency and fire (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, resulting in hyperactivity of deficiency and fire), which manifests as sweating when sleeping and stopping when waking up. If there is insufficient blood in the heart, the heart blood should be tonified and nourished. If there is a deficiency of yin and fire, the yin should be nourished and the fire should be lowered (nourishing the yin essence and lowering the fire).
The treatment of Heart-Blood insufficiency is to tonify and nourish Heart-Blood, represented by the formula Gui Spleen Tang. Clinical manifestations include sweating during sleep, which stops when waking up, pale face, fatigue (lack of spirit), shortness of breath, palpitations (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), palpitation (violent heartbeat, panic), insomnia, and dreaminess, with a pale tongue, white moss, and thin veins.
The treatment of Yin deficiency and fire is to nourish Yin and reduce fire, and the representative formula is Angelica Six Yellow Soup.
Clinical manifestations include night sweating or spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by the slightest movement), thirst, heart-heat (heat in the hearts of the hands and feet, and self-consciousness of the heart and chest), red cheekbones, or afternoon hot flashes (bursts of heat), red tongue with little moss, and a fine pulse (the pulse becomes narrower and finer, and the rate increases).
If night sweats occur at night, it is recommended to consult a doctor and avoid self-medication.
