Fishwort is a heat-clearing and detoxifying (removing heat and toxicity from the body) medicine classified under the category of heat-clearing medicines, and is the rooted herb of Houttuynia cordata of the family Sambucusiaceae. It is pungent in flavor and slightly cold in nature. It belongs to the lung meridian. Houttuynia cordata has the effects of clearing heat and removing toxins, eliminating carbuncles and discharging pus (eliminating carbuncles and discharging pus), and diuretic and diaphoretic (improving the problem of dribbling in the urine, and the problem of small and incomprehensible amount of urine). It can be used in the treatment of carbuncle and pus discharge, lung-heat cough, heat-poisonous sores, damp-heat gonorrhea (increased frequency of urination, dribbling and astringent pain), and so on. Note that this product is contraindicated in cases of deficiency-cold syndrome and yin sores and ulcers. It should not be decocted for a long time.
