Can Iodophor be rubbed in the mouth?

Low concentrations of povidone iodine can be rubbed into the mouth for disinfection of wounds, while higher concentrations need to be diluted for use. Low concentrations of iodophor can be used to disinfect the oral cavity, and the most common concentration is 1%, which can be applied directly to the oral cavity. In the presence of abrasions or injuries to the oral mucosa, dental treatment or tooth extraction requiring local anesthesia, povidone iodine is used to disinfect the mucosa. Highly concentrated povidone iodine needs to be diluted before use, and direct rubbing can cause throat irritation, so if used inadvertently you can rinse your mouth with water. Therefore, the use of low concentration of povidone iodine for oral mucosal disinfection can be directly wiped in the mouth, high concentration of diluted before use, so as not to produce irritation of the throat.
