The cause of burning sensation under the right rib cage may be contusions of the soft tissues of the skin, application of irritating substances, herpes zoster, intercostal neuralgia, and lesions of the tissues and organs around the right side of the rib cage. Some people may have occasional localized traumatic skin soft tissue contusions or accidental application of irritating substances such as chili water, which can cause burning sensation under the right side of the rib cage. Infection with varicella-zoster virus in the right rib area can cause clusters of blisters and papules with pain and burning sensation under the right side of the rib cage. Intercostal neuralgia from various causes such as trauma, infection, thoracic spine lesions, tumors, etc., can also cause paroxysmal or persistent stabbing, burning pain under the right side of the ribs. Various right subcostal peripheral tissue and organ pathologies such as hepatitis, cholecystitis, esophagitis, and intestinal obstruction may be felt as a burning sensation under the right side of the ribs. In either case, if the right subcostal burning sensation is recurrent or persistent, it is recommended to consult a physician for a proper examination and related tests to make a clear diagnosis and treatment.
