What is isosorbide nitrate injection?

Isosorbide nitrate injection, a vasodilator drug, is used in the treatment of angina pectoris and congestive heart failure. The main ingredient of isosorbide nitrate injection is isosorbide nitrate, which has the effect of relaxing smooth muscle, especially vascular smooth muscle, and the diastolic effect on post-capillary venous blood vessels is more persistent than that on small arteries, but there is no obvious direct effect on the myocardium. Because of the volume vasodilatation, the venous return to the heart is reduced, so it can reduce the preload of the heart, while peripheral resistance vasodilatation, blood pressure drops, so that the left ventricular ejection resistance is reduced, and then make the heart afterload drop. The reduction of cardiac preload and afterload reduces myocardial oxygen consumption. Isosorbide Nitrate Injection is mainly used in the treatment of angina pectoris and congestive heart failure. Symptoms such as headache and nausea may occur due to vasodilatation during use, especially during the initial period of administration. The drug is contraindicated in patients with head trauma, severe hyponatremia, hypovolemia or anemia, as well as allergy to nitrates. The patient’s heart rate and blood pressure should be closely monitored during use of the drug. Careful attention should also be paid to hypothyroidism, malnutrition, severe liver or kidney disease and low body weight. Isosorbide Nitrate Injection is a prescription drug and should be used under the supervision of a doctor if needed to minimize the risk of medication.
