What’s wrong with swollen eyes and puffy face?

Swollen eyes and face may be related to physiological factors such as staying up too late and drinking too much water, as well as pathological factors such as chronic nephritis, abnormal thyroid function and acute dacryocystitis.
1. Physiological factors: staying up late will make the eyes tired and thus appear swollen, drinking too much water before going to bed may make the body not be able to fully absorb the water, which leads to water residue in the eyes and around the face where the skin is more loose, and then appear swollen.
2. Pathological factors
(1) Chronic nephritis: chronic nephritis is usually caused by abnormalities in the glomeruli, manifested as hematuria, edema, etc. Swelling of the eyes and face may be caused by chronic nephritis.
(2) Abnormal thyroid function: the function of the thyroid gland is mainly to synthesize thyroid hormones and regulate the metabolism of the human body. Abnormal thyroid function can easily cause metabolic disorders, which can lead to the symptoms of swollen eyes and face.
(3) Acute dacryocystitis: Acute dacryocystitis is mainly caused by bacterial infection in the lacrimal sac area, which manifests itself as swollen eyes and tearing, etc. If the patient’s condition is more serious, it may cause swelling in the nose, face and other parts of the body.
After excluding the swollen eyes and puffy face caused by physiological factors, patients should go to the hospital in time to check the cause of the disease, and use the appropriate treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
