Follicular keratosis generally has a good prognosis and may occasionally resolve with age, e.g. follicular keratosis caused by hair moss or hyperkeratosis. Follicular plugs caused by vitamin deficiencies are also more effective when treated. However, for pre-existing difficult-to-treat conditions, such as discoid lupus erythematosus, only symptomatic treatment of follicular keratosis can provide relief and the prognosis depends on the overall treatment of the disease.
