Is there a difference between follicular pimples and acne?

Follicular keratosis is the blockage of keratinised skin material in the funnel portion of the dilated hair follicle opening and is a symptom that presents as a pinpoint-sized keratotic papule. Acne, on the other hand, is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that occurs in the sebaceous glands of the skin follicles and includes whiteheads, blackheads, abscesses, nodules and cysts, and is most likely to occur in areas of high oil production. The clinical manifestations of acne can also include follicular plugs.
