Constipation, spleen deficiency and qi stagnation, and dietary stagnation are not suitable for taking Half-summer Laxative Heart Soup, as it may aggravate the patient’s existing symptoms. Semixia Diarrhoea and Heart Dissolving Soup is composed of Semixia, Rhizoma Coptidis, Scutellaria Baicalensis, Ginger, Licorice, Jujubae and Ginseng. It is used for treating gastric fullness (distension and discomfort of the stomach) caused by cold-heat syndrome (the presence of both cold and heat syndromes in the same patient) with no pain, or vomiting, intestinal tinnitus with discharging of bowel movements, and greasy and yellowish fur on the tongue. It should not be taken by constipated persons, persons with spleen deficiency and Qi stagnation, or persons with dietary stagnation. 1. Constipation: Half-summer and dried ginger in this product have the effect of injuring yin and depleting fluids, which not only can’t play a therapeutic role, but also aggravate the symptoms of constipation. 2. Spleen deficiency and qi stagnation: Huanglian and Scutellaria baicalensis in this product are bitter and cold in nature, which can easily aggravate the symptoms of loss of appetite, abdominal distension, shortness of breath and laziness caused by spleen deficiency. 3. For those with dietary stagnation: jujube and ginseng in this product have the effect of tonifying the middle Jiao and benefiting qi (treating qi deficiency by tonifying the spleen), which can easily aggravate abdominal distension caused by dietary stagnation. This product should be taken under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, and should not be used blindly on its own, so as not to cause delay in the condition.
