Most of the high total bilirubin in newborns are physiological reasons, and some of them may have pathological reasons. 1. Physiological reasons: newborns are just born with more destruction of red blood cells, producing a large amount of bilirubin, immature liver function, bilirubin processing is not timely, which will lead to increased bilirubin values in the blood, in addition, the intestinal flora environment has not yet been well established in the neonatal period, the excretion of bilirubin is not good, the bilirubin will be reabsorbed through the intestinal tract, resulting in increased bilirubin in the blood. 2. Pathological causes: most often seen in mother and child blood type incompatibility caused by neonatal hemolysis, neonatal infections, subcutaneous hematoma, asphyxia, hypoxia, hypoglycemia and other causes may be caused. Newborns with high total bilirubin are advised to combine the baby’s specific symptoms and bilirubin values to assess the condition, high bilirubin values, timely hospitalization and examination to clarify the cause of the disease and standardize the treatment, so as to avoid triggering other complications.
