Gallbladder spasm is usually caused by abnormal contraction of gallbladder smooth muscle. The most common cause of gallbladder smooth muscle contraction is gallbladder stones, followed by exertion, greasy food and psychological factors.
1. Stone obstruction in the gallbladder, stone embedded in the gallbladder duct or gallbladder torsion can lead to spasm of the gallbladder.
2. Greasy and spicy food or excessive satiety can stimulate the gallbladder to spasm.
3. Prolonged exposure to a strenuous environment, lack of adequate rest, or prolonged stress can cause the gallbladder to spasm.
A common symptom of gallbladder spasms is paroxysmal colicky pain in the right upper abdomen, which may radiate to the right shoulder or back, and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. If you experience symptoms related to gallbladder spasms, you should seek medical attention.
