Lichen planus does not usually heal on its own. The cause of lichen planus is not clear, but it is considered to be related to immunity, genetics, viral infection, and mental factors. There is no specific clinical treatment for lichen planus, but it is usually a comprehensive treatment, such as glucocorticoids, tacrolimus, vincristine ointment, and some patients can try to apply glucocorticoid local injection for treatment. Some patients may take oral antihistamines, such as cetirizine and paracetamol, because of intense itching. Other patients may experience glucocorticoid insensitivity and may consider immunomodulators, such as hydroxychloroquine.
