Medications for the initial stages of vitiligo include topical medications such as fluticasone propionate, tacrolimus ointment, capotriol ointment and internal medications such as prednisone. Vitiligo is a common acquired pigment loss skin and mucous membrane disease, clinically manifested as white patches and/or white hair, which can occur in all parts of the body. Glucocorticoid preparations such as fluticasone propionate, betamethasone valerate, and hydrocortisone butyrate can be used to treat early stage vitiligo. Calcium-modulated phosphatase inhibitors such as tacrolimus ointment and pimecrolimus cream and vitamin D3 derivatives such as calcipotriol ointment and tacalcitol ointment are also used to treat initial vitiligo. Medications such as oral prednisone are also used to treat vitiligo. All medications should be used under the guidance of a medical professional.
