Semixia Houpu Tang has the effects of promoting qi circulation and dispersing lumps (smoothing the body’s qi and dissolving lumps), lowering rebelliousness and resolving phlegm (correcting retrograde qi and removing phlegm from the body), and treating plum nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal synesthesia), and it has certain therapeutic effects on dry cough caused by phlegm-qi stagnation.
Semixia Houpu Tang (半夏厚朴汤) is from “The Essentials of the Golden Chamber” and is a qi regulating agent. It is effective in promoting qi circulation, dispersing stagnation, subduing reversal and resolving phlegm, and treating phlegm-qi stagnation causing symptoms such as obstruction in the pharynx, inability to vomit or gag, inability to swallow, tightness in the chest, and vomiting, with a white and moist tongue coating and a slow pulse.
This formula can be used to treat chronic pharyngitis, chronic bronchitis, esophageal spasm caused by stagnation of qi and phlegm, so it can also be used to treat the symptoms of dry cough caused by the above diseases. However, it has no therapeutic effect on dry cough caused by other factors.
