Dosage and Indications of Semixia Houpu Tang

The dosage of Semixia Houpu Tang is usually 12g of Semixia, 9g of Houpu, 12g of Poria, 15g of Ginger and 6g of Sophora, but the doctor may also adjust the dosage according to the patient’s specific clinical symptoms, and it is recommended to take it according to the doctor’s instruction. It is used for the treatment of prune nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal allodynia). The composition of Semixia Houpu Tang is Semixia, Poria, Poria, Ginger and Su Ye, which has the efficacy of dredging the liver, dispersing the nodules, subduing the rebellious and resolving phlegm (correcting the rebellious flow of qi and removing phlegm from the body), and is mainly used for treating Meibei Qi (plum nucleus qi), which can be seen in the following symptoms: inability to spit or gag, difficulty in swallowing, obstruction of pharyngeal objects, stuffiness of the chest and diaphragm, and coughing or vomiting, and so on. Adverse effects of Semixia Houpu Tang are not known. Contraindications are not clear. However, it should be noted that, for those who are suffering from yin injury and low fluid intake, it is not recommended to use Half-summer and Houpu Tang even though it has the characteristics of prune nucleus qi.
