Withdrawal bleeding after taking Deferiprone is similar to bleeding during menstruation, in which the endometrium is thinned by shedding. Deferiprone is essentially a progestin. When the drug is discontinued after regular use of deferiprone, there will be a drop in the level of progestin in the body, which will cause physiological contraction of the spiral arteries of the uterus, resulting in ischemia and hypoxia of the endometrium, causing the endometrium to shed its lining and regressive bleeding. This degenerative bleeding is similar to normal female menstrual cycle bleeding. During a woman’s menstrual period, although the endometrium is shedding and bleeding for a short period of time and some thinning occurs, after the menstrual period, the endometrium enters a period of hyperplasia and recovers the thickness of the endometrium. Therefore, on the whole, the drug does not thin the uterus. However, it should be noted that in case of adverse reactions such as vaginal bleeding, nausea and vomiting, migraine, menstrual disorders, etc., it is recommended to stop the drug and consult a doctor. The drug is contraindicated in people with drug allergy, unidentified vaginal bleeding, and severe liver insufficiency. Deferiprone should be used under the supervision of a clinician.
