Sour Jujube Seed is suitable for insomnia caused by deficiency of yin and blood in the heart and liver, and loss of nourishment for the heart (the heart is deprived of nourishment); Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata is suitable for insomnia caused by blood deficiency. However, the efficacy of a single Chinese medicine is limited, and clinically it needs to be used with other Chinese medicines after identification by a Chinese medicine practitioner. 1. Sour Jujube Seed has the effects of nourishing the heart, benefiting the liver, calming the mind and restraining sweating. It is mainly used for palpitations (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), dyskinesia (violent heartbeat, panic and restlessness), forgetfulness, insomnia, dreaminess, dizziness, spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the daytime, sweating is aggravated with a little movement), night sweating (sweating abnormally after going to sleep, sweating stops after waking up), and thirst, thirst, dryness of throat and other fluid injuries. 2. Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata has the effect of tonifying blood, nourishing yin, benefiting essence and filling in marrow. It is used for treating blood deficiency and yellowish color, irregular menstruation, disintegration (excessive menstrual flow or dribbling of menstruation) with hemorrhage, deficiency of kidney yin, lumbar and knee soreness and tenderness (a feeling of soreness and weakness in the lumbar and knee regions), night sweating and spermatorrhea. It is not recommended to take if there is stagnation of qi and phlegm, distension and pain in the epigastrium (abdomen), or if there is little food and loose stools (thin and unformed feces). In case of insomnia, it is recommended to actively consult the hospital and use the medicine under the doctor’s guidance.
