The normal range of blood pressure for a 70 year old is 90-140 mmHg for high pressure and 90-60 mmHg for low pressure. If the blood pressure is out of this range, it is considered abnormal. If the high blood pressure is higher than 140mmHg or the low blood pressure is higher than 90mmHg in 3 measurements in the clinic not on the same day, it is called high blood pressure. However, for 70-year-olds, atherosclerotic lesions are usually present, so the pulse pressure difference is often larger. Hypertension in elderly patients is mostly dominated by systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure is even lower than the normal range. 70 year olds with hypertension should be cautious in the selection of antihypertensive drugs and dosage when undergoing antihypertensive treatment, and it is advisable to lower the effect of blood pressure slowly rather than too quickly. Among elderly hypertensive patients, postural hypotension and postprandial hypotension are prone to occur. Therefore, while emphasizing blood pressure compliance, elderly patients should avoid excessive lowering of blood pressure. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, if there is a persistent rise, seek medical attention and strictly follow the doctor’s instructions for medication.
