Breast ultrasound is an ultrasound examination while mammogram is an X-ray examination. Ultrasound is mainly used to check whether there are lesions inside the breast, the size and location of the lesions and so on. Mammogram is mainly used to check the presence of lesions, size and location of lesions in the breast, while mammogram is mainly used to check the presence of calcified foci in the breast.
Breast ultrasound and mammography are both imaging tests, but the methods used and the purpose of the tests are not the same, and the two tests are often combined in order to better understand the condition of the lesions.
Breast ultrasound is relatively simple and is generally used as a preliminary screening test for breast cancer. Mammography, on the other hand, is relatively more complex, may cause mild pain in the patient’s breasts during the examination, and is generally used as a further screening test for breast cancer.
Both methods can be used to check the internal condition of the breast. If the patient wants to do the relevant examination, he/she should consult the attending doctor first and choose the examination method suitable for him/her.
