Can a foreign body in the bladder cause bladder stones?

Foreign bodies in the bladder or ureter can lead to stone formation.

In this case, a bladder stone developed secondary to the incorrect use of a nonabsorbable suture to close the ureterobladder anastomosis site during an outside hospital ureterobladder reimplantation procedure, resulting in exposure of the thread to urine. Ureteral obstruction occurred because the stone occupied the ureteral opening site. Ultimately, open surgery was used to reanastomize the ureter and remove the stone.
