Breast Nodule Hypoechoic Boundary Clear and Irregular Is It Serious?

Breast nodule hypoechoic border is clear and irregular there is a suspicion of malignant signs, it is recommended to combine with other descriptions of ultrasound to determine whether it is serious, and if necessary, to carry out a puncture biopsy. In breast nodule ultrasonography, most breast masses appear as hypoechoic nodules, which can be benign such as complex cysts or malignant such as breast cancer. Breast nodules with clear borders are usually benign. Irregular shape of breast nodule means that the nodule is other than round or oval shape, which is a suspicious sign of malignancy. Patients should combine this with other descriptions on the ultrasound or mammogram report, such as the ultrasound BI-RADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) classification, direction of the mass, posterior echogenicity, calcification, and blood flow to determine the risk of malignancy of the nodule. In general, those with suspicious signs of malignancy such as “irregular pattern” belong to at least BI-RADS category 4A, with at least 2-10% possibility of malignancy, and most of them need to undergo puncture biopsy to further determine the benignness or malignancy of the mass. If the mass is confirmed to be benign, the prognosis is generally not serious, and the prognosis is good after conservative treatment or surgical resection of the mass; if the mass is malignant, the prognosis is more serious, and radical surgery as well as radiotherapy and chemotherapy are needed to prolong the survival period. It is recommended that the patient should bring the imaging report to the doctor for further examination and treatment as prescribed by the doctor.
