The process in which a baby is born from its mother’s womb is called labor and delivery, which usually consists of two types of delivery, i.e., natural delivery and cesarean section.
1. Natural labor: This means that the fetus can be delivered vaginally without any surgical assistance.
It consists of three stages of labor. The first stage of labor refers to the process from the regular contractions, the cervical canal begins to shorten, and the mouth of the uterus begins to open until the mouth of the uterus is fully open. The second stage of labor is from the opening of the uterus to the delivery of the baby. The third stage of labor is from the delivery of the fetus to the delivery of the placenta.
After the delivery, the mother needs to stay in the delivery room for two hours to observe the labor and delivery, and under the guidance of the doctor to determine whether there is post-partum hemorrhage and other complications related to labor and delivery.
2. Cesarean section: This is a surgical procedure in which the abdomen and uterus are cut open to deliver the fetus. Usually, cesarean section is only considered for pregnant women with indications for cesarean section. These include severe heart disease, severe high blood pressure, intrauterine oxygen deprivation, pelvic abnormality, oversized fetus, and abnormal fetal position.
Cesarean section is the main solution for difficult labor and may cause complications such as bleeding, so it is important to be aware of the indications for the procedure.
