Is it serious to have oral leukoplakia

Oral leukoplakia belongs to a kind of pre-cancerous lesion, i.e. potential oral malignant disease, which has a better prognosis after active treatment and is generally not serious. Therefore, it is suggested that patients should receive regular treatment in time according to their condition to avoid its development to form oral squamous carcinoma. Oral leukoplakia is a keratinized spot on the oral mucosa that cannot be erased, mostly occurring in the buccal occlusal line and the tongue, usually without obvious sensation so it is not easy to be detected. The causes of this disease are complex, and may be related to smoking, pseudofilamentous yeast infection, human papillomavirus infection, poor restorative stimulation, radiation long-term stimulation, and so on. As oral leukoplakia is generally more difficult to be detected early, but it is a precancerous lesion will be transformed into oral squamous carcinoma, thus seriously affecting the quality of life. Therefore, it is recommended that when there are white keratinized spots in the oral cavity that cannot be erased, the surface of the lesions is rough and uneven, there is pain or tingling sensation, accompanied by recurring ulcers or vesicles, it is necessary to consult a doctor for a clear diagnosis.
