Focal is a common medical term for a lesion that is confined to a small area, surrounded by tissues that are normal in structure and function, and not affected by the diseased tissue. Focal lesions can be found in a variety of diseases. In digestive diseases, focal fatty lesions in the liver can be seen in the early stage of fatty liver; in respiratory diseases, focal lung nodules can be seen in lung infections, tuberculosis and other diseases; in endocrine system, focal thyroid lesions can be seen in thyroid nodules, thyroid cysts and other diseases.
