Patients with whooping cough usually get past the spasmodic cough stage in 3 to 8 weeks. Pertussis is divided into three phases: kata phase, spasmodic cough phase and recovery phase. 1. Catarrhal phase: generally lasts 1 to 2 weeks, clinical manifestations of a mild cough, nasal congestion and runny nose, low fever, similar to the common cold. 2. Spasmodic cough period: this period of increased cough, generally 2 to 6 weeks, can also be up to 2 months or more, the clinical manifestations of paroxysmal, spasmodic cough that is spasmodic cough and accompanied by high-pitched rooster-like inhalation roar, especially obvious at night. 3. Recovery period: weeks or months later, the frequency and severity of cough gradually reduced. The time required for the spasmodic cough period to end is the kata period plus the spasmodic cough period is usually 3 to 8 weeks. It is worth noting that in patients with pertussis, if there are complications, the recovery period may be slightly slower, i.e. the recovery period is prolonged. If the patient is found to have symptoms such as chicken-like cough, it is recommended to go to the hospital as soon as possible, do not blindly treatment, so as not to delay the condition.
