How lipid plaques form

The formation of lipid plaque mainly goes through three stages: vascular endothelial damage, foam cell formation, and endothelial lipid deposition. 1. Vascular endothelial damage: under the action of hypertension, diabetes, smoking, drinking and other pathological factors damage, the vascular endothelium is damaged, and the integrity of the vascular endothelium is destroyed. 2. Foam cell formation: In patients with abnormal lipid metabolism, monocytes migrate to the endothelium to form macrophages and phagocytose excessive lipids, forming foam cells. Smooth muscle cells can also phagocytose lipids as a source of foam cells. 3. Vascular endothelial lipid deposition: Under the action of the above mechanism, foam cell formation increases continuously into the vascular endothelium, lipid deposition increases, and lipid plaques are formed. The formation of lipid plaques is one of the characteristics of atherosclerosis. If you feel unwell, it is recommended that you go to the hospital as soon as possible to avoid delaying your condition.
