PET-CT cannot distinguish the nature of solid lung nodules, it is only a functional imaging, and the only criterion to diagnose the nature of the nodules is pathologic examination.
PET-CT is a more advanced examination, mainly through the abnormalities of sugar metabolism in normal and tumor tissues.
If the lung nodule is a malignant tumor, the metabolism will be enhanced, showing a brighter image, while the image of normal tissue, is darker. From this aspect to determine whether the metabolic activity of the tissue is enhanced or not, gives a direction to determine, but also needs the next step to diagnose.
